What is 'Digital Arrest Scam' and How Can You Protect Yourself

The digital arrest scam is a growing problem in India, where scammers use fear and psychological tricks to steal money. Victims receive calls from people pretending to represent courier companies like FedEx or DHL, claiming a suspicious package linked to their name contains illegal items. The call is then transferred to someone posing as a police officer, who threatens arrest unless the victim cooperates. Scammers often share personal details, like Aadhaar or bank information, to appear credible, and even escalate to video calls to intimidate victims further.

How to Protect Yourself:

  1. Hang Up on Suspicious Calls: Do not trust calls claiming to be from courier companies or law enforcement. Verify directly with official channels.
  2. Don’t Share Sensitive Information: Genuine companies or authorities will never ask for details like Aadhaar, bank accounts, or passwords over the phone.
  3. Enable Security Features: Use two-factor authentication and monitor accounts for unusual activity.
  4. Recognize Fake Threats: Real police do not issue arrest threats over the phone.
  5. Report Scams: Block scam numbers and report them to local authorities or the cybercrime department.

FedEx has also issued a statement confirming that they never ask for personal information over unsolicited calls and advise users to report suspicious activity immediately. Stay cautious and protect yourself from these scams.

The Doctorpreneur Academy:
Quote From Legends in Medicine and Entrepreneurship

"Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman explores how humans think and make decisions, focusing on two systems of thinking:

1. System 1 (Fast Thinking):
Intuitive, automatic, and quick. It helps us make everyday decisions but is prone to biases and errors because it relies on heuristics (mental shortcuts).

2. System 2 (Slow Thinking):
Deliberate, analytical, and logical. It requires effort and attention but is more reliable for complex and critical decisions.

Kahneman discusses how these systems interact and influence our judgments, often leading to predictable mistakes in areas like risk assessment, decision-making, and behavioral economics. He highlights cognitive biases, such as overconfidence, anchoring, and loss aversion, that affect our choices.

The book provides practical insights to help readers understand their thinking patterns and improve decision-making by recognizing when to rely on intuition and when to engage in deliberate analysis.
